The Easiest Place to Start
The Google Adsense program is perhaps the
easiest place for most people to start their online
business. The barrier of entry is so low that
virtually anybody can realistically work the basic
Adsense business model. There is no need to
understand how to build a website, register a domain
or acquire hosting in order to get started.
I'll show you more of the basic Adsense business
model in a few minutes, but first let's make sure
you have an understanding of how the Adsense
advertising network operates.
Adsense
in a Nutshell
The Adsense advertising
involves Google selling advertising space to
advertisers. The types of ads sold range from simple
text ads, to display and banner type ads. Google
then places those ads on various websites within the
Google Adsense network. The chances are very good
that you have come across these types of ads as you
have surfed the web. When an individual clicks on
the ad, they will then be routed to the website of
the advertiser.
| Google then charges
the advertiser (the person placing the ad) a
fee every time that somebody clicks on the
ad or every time the ad is shown. The method
of how the charge is applied is the option
of the advertiser. |
 |
Some advertisers choose to pay for
each click and some of them choose to pay per 1000
impressions of the ad. An impression simply means
that the ad has been shown on a website within the Adsense network. The owners of the websites within
the network are referred to as "publishers".
They are publishing the ads on their
websites.
The publisher (website owner)
that hosted the ad that earned the fee for Google
and in return is paid a portion of the fee by
Google. In a sense the website owner has rented
Google space to host the ad. The amount of the
portion paid to the publisher seems to vary from
about 30 to 50% of the fees collected by Google from
the advertiser. This however is an estimate as
Google does not disclose what the actual split is.
The amount paid also seems to vary with the keywords
that were used to trigger the ad to be displayed.
How to Get Started
Setting up an account on the
Adsense network is painless. Almost all applicants
are approved provided they have not previously
violated the Adsense terms of service. Be sure to
actually read the terms of service to insure that
you are not violating the policies in any way. There
are definitely things you can and cannot do.
Getting started is as easy as deciding which
keywords you want to target and building sites to
host the ads on. The best Adsense sites are content
only sites. I am sure you have seen many of them
already. They are usually no frill, plain wrapper
sites that offer a 300 to 500 word article based
around whatever keyword or keyword phrase that you
have targeted.
The only objective of these
sites is to provide enough information to attract
the visitor and then have them click away from the
page via an Adsense ad that will be displayed on the
page. You will see all sorts of sites that are built
to use the Adsense model, but the most profitable
sites are designed with this strategy in mind.
30 Minutes From Now
I mentioned earlier in this article that you do not
have to own a website in order to become a publisher
for Adsense. This is true and one way you will work
around owning your own site is to use the Blogger
platform.
| You
could literally have one of these Adsense
sites up and running in thirty minutes or
less. First you need a keyword. The right a
short article using that keyword. Then go to
the Blogger.com website and setup a simple
blog using that article. Next add your
Adsense code that is supplied to you from
Google and you are done.
Be sure to use the
keyword in the title of your blog and then
repeat the keyword at a rate of one to three
percent throughout your article. |
 |
If your article is 500 words
then you will want to be sure to use the keyword or
the the keyword phrase five to fifteen times. I
normally shoot for about 2%. You will want to make
sure you use the keyword in the first paragraph and
the last, and then sprinkle it throughout the rest
of the article. Use only one keyword or keyword
phrase per article. You could also build this site
(page) by utilizing the Hub Pages site. None of this
will cost you a dime. Of course to make any money
you will have to bring traffic to your new site and
that is another matter entirely and is discussed in
other sections of this website.
Ugly Wins
I want to reiterate that these
"for Adsense only" websites need to be very plain.
This may go against everything you have been
thinking about building websites. But the testing
has been done by many before you. Don't question
this.
There is no need for fancy,
flashy graphics or anything else to keep your
visitor on your page. Wet their whistle with some
simple content and let them be on their way by
clicking on an ad to leave your boring little page.
Every time someone clicks one of the ads to leave
your site is money in your pocket. I also advise not
trying to sell anything in the way of your own
products, or affiliate related products from your
adsense sites. If you have your own product, then
you should be building a site specifically for that
product, and that product only. The same goes for
your affiliate activities. Giving your visitor to
many choices may just rattle them enough that they
just close the page to end their confusion.
Controlling Your
Assets
When you are building
your online business, I consider the sites that you
build as the assets of your business. Your websites
and the income they produce will be the only reason
your business has any value. So it only makes sense
to have total control over your assets right?
I just showed you a very quick
and easy method for getting started with Adsense.
The method is legitimate and viable. However it does
have a drawback. You have limited control over your
assets, meaning that your Adsense pages will be
hosted on the servers of Blogger and/or HubPages.
Your asset is on their platform, their site.
Your pages can be removed from
their sites without any notice. Blogger is owned by
Google and Big G can be a bit temperamental and
unpredictable. Blogger blogs have been known to
disappear. Hub Page pages have also been known to
mysteriously disappear on occasion.
I don't think it is a regular
occurrence, or anything widespread, but it does
happen. Once these blogs/pages are removed they are
gone forever. Perhaps these are incidents of spam,
or a violation of the site's terms of service, or
perhaps unsuitable adult content etc. But I don't
think that is always the case.
I have heard stories from too
many reputable people to believe that there is
always a good reason that the sites were removed. I
think there are incidents where it may just be a bug
in the Blogger or HubPages system. The point is
nobody can know for sure.
