Building Your AR
Sequence Here comes
the magic of building and cultivating a list
automatically. You will be able to have pre-written
emails queued up in your AR sequence. You will also
be able to dictate the intervals at which these
emails will be sent. The way you will go about this
will depend greatly on the product you are
marketing and your marketing style.
For this list sequence I will
assume that the list member did not buy your product
on their first visit. Here is an example sequence;
Day 01- Welcome email with
instructions on how to get the free information you promised
to them.
Day 03- A quick thank you for their recent visit to
your site along with your site address. You might
ask if they have any questions and let them know you
will be delighted to answer any questions they may
may about your product. Keep it light.
Day 05- This email could
contain a case study of somebody who has used your
product. Videos work well for these sorts of case
studies. Provide a link in the email where they can
go to watch this video. It also gives you the
opportunity to place some more sales copy on the
page containing the video. Make sure it has an order
button!
Day 07- Time for an email pointing out the benefits
of your product again. Adding a few testimonials to
this email couldn't hurt. It would also be a good
idea to sprinkle in some free content. If you are
marketing an ebook then let them read the first
chapter of your book. If you are marketing videos,
then allow them to see a preview video of some sort.
Get them back to your site and get them involved
again.
You are now 4 contacts into
the sequence. I would send three more emails about
my product. It's best if you can provide good
content that allows you to add the mention of your
product as a benefit. For example, here is a problem
many people have when they are trying to give their
dog a bath. My product offers an easy solution to this
problem because it does this....
I would keep the first seven emails on the 2 day
cycle. With these first seven emails you are trying to get
the sale on your original product. I don't make any
other product pitches in those first 7 mailings. No
need to confuse things. If you haven't made the sale
in the first seven mailings, then the chances are
you are not going to do so.
So on the 8th email I usually
start to change things up. I might send them a
questionnaire asking how I can help them with a
solution to their problem or situation. Remember
that if you are marketing to a very hungry crowd
(like you should be), then you can assume that you
have an idea what the situation/problem is. But
everyone is different and you will pickup other
marketing angles from the answers they will provide to
your questions.
I usually reduce the frequency
of the email sequence to every 4 days at this point. I don't want
to hassle anybody to the point where they
unsubscribe from my list, and frankly every two days
is a bit aggressive. Now my emails will be more
about content than they will be about selling them
stuff. Ideally I will be able to sprinkle product
offerings into the free content I am providing to
them, but that is not always possible, and that's
okay. It is the gift of great content that is going
to win over your new member and build their trust in
you.
Segment Your List
I find it extremely helpful to
segment my lists. One segment I use is buyers versus
non-buyers. If someone has already purchased my
Product A, then why would I want to continue sending
them emails asking them to purchase it again? What I
would want to be doing is marketing them an upgrade
to the product or perhaps another product that will
compliment the product they already purchased.
This is just one reason why
you might want to segment your list. I am sure you
can think of others. It's also something I address
in my list building course.
Don't Wear it Out
This is perhaps the most valuable
advice I can give to you in regards to building your
list. Your list will eventually reach a size that
has the potential to show you a nice profit when you
send out an offer. Maybe the offer is to an
affiliate product. Maybe it will be a high response
to one of your own products. But eventually it will
happen.
You are going to send out that
one email that will fill your inbox with orders. As
you look with amazement at your mailbox you will
mumble to yourself, "They weren't kidding, the money
really is in the list".
If you are like most normal
people, at this point you will be tempted to mail
out another offer, and then another offer. After all
if your list liked that last offer, then they are
going to love this one! Be careful my friend. Be
very careful. Use some restraint.
The last thing you want to do is
ruin the relationship you have built with your list.
Building that relationship takes time. The likely
reason you were able to build the relationship with
your list was because you weren't hammering them
with a different offer three or four times a week.
You provided great content and that made your list
trust you. They believe you really do have their
best interest in mind, and you really do... right?
I recently joined one of the
guru's list during a major product launch they were
conducting. Let's just say it was a PPC product. The
launch appears to have been widely successful but it
had wound down. About two weeks after the offer
closed, I received an email from guru pushing an
affiliate offer on another PPC product.
It wasn't enough that someone had bought their all
encompassing product. During their launch process
they had told me how I would never need another PPC
product etc etc, but now two weeks later they are
telling me I need this new PPC gizmo? They instantly
lost any credibility that they had gained from me.
Now I wouldn't buy any product from this individual
as I can be fairly certain that they don't really
care about my success. They just want to line their
pockets with my affiliate purchases using their
link. That's not who I want to do business with.
Take care of your list. Treat
them as an intricate part of your business and you
can profit from the list for years to come. Start
acting like a jerk and your list will become
unresponsive and worthless.
Happy list building!
